WACAC Members Facebook Page

Just to remind members that the official Facebook page run by WACAC is 'WACAC' only and not 'WACAC Members' which is run by mainly disgruntled anglers who are not necessarily members of WACAC. Take the posts with a pinch of salt and don't be taken in by the ill-informed minority who post misinformation on there.

WACAC's website or WACAC's Facebook page are the only true sources of the clubs pertinent information. Meeting minutes are recorded on the left hand side of this page.

A member passes away

It is with regret that the committee has to inform it's members of the loss of Nigel Young who passed away in November.  Our thoughts are with his wife Ann and family. A generous donation of £112.55p has been donated to WACAC on behalf of his family and friends.  This is much appreciated.

Letter from our landlord regarding the QEII lake

In answer to your members questions,

The Council does not allow any powered craft on the lake either full size craft or remote controlled. In the past they have been used to disturb wildfowl, and have also been used in poaching activities

The park byelaws state at Byelaw 10 "No person shall erect a tent or use any vehicle including a caravan within the park on land other than set aside for the purpose". The council set this aside to allow the club to camp for 48 hours, any longer was considered as an incentive for non-anglers to camp. There being no ablution facilities available now it has been discussed at higher management level if it is still fitting that anglers can still camp when no toilets are available. I am resisting their advisement to remove this right, but if your members want to make an issue of this, I will guarantee management will remove this right from the agreement.

The parking restrictions wont affect anglers at all, there is a 72 hour allowance for parking with no return for 12 hours, as I understand it your members can stay for 48 hours with no return to the water for 24 hours.

The club and I work well together, being an angler myself I always look after the clubs interests. Those members who keep asking the same two questions could end up being detrimental to all of the members if the right to camp is removed. As the landowners the council make the rules for the betterment of the park, and to allow the club some autonomy in allowing its members some flexibility within the byelaws, They are within the councils gift and can be removed just as easily. Please make them fully aware of this, and if they don't like the conditions you operate under, they don't have to fish the lake !

Warmest regards

Fish Deaths

Recent fish deaths on Horton Grange total 27 bream for 93lb and 17 tench for 74lb.

The EA visited the water and explained that the oxygen was normal. However, the fish deaths are due to high water temperatures combined with the stress of spawning. They also said that this time last year they had 60 call outs due to fish deaths, whereas in the last month they had 600 calls.

The Angling Trust website has reported rivers with an unprecedented number of incidents

Rules Reminder

Members are reminded of rules 9 and 16 which state.

9. Members must adopt a responsible attitude to members of the public and other water users and endeavour to avoid injury to anyone in anyway.

16. Members must always keep within the club boundaries.

Club boundaries are the immediate area around the waters and not into the adjacent woods or fields

Keep out of Danger

A member has entered the woods around Milkhope during tree felling

and put themselves and others in danger resulting in a severe warning to the

club from our landlord. The matter was dealt with by the committee but be

assured any breach of rules puts our fishing rights in danger and could result

in the club relinquishing any fishing we currently have.

Under no circumstances are members allowed to wander away from the ponds

unless organised by the committee. This is a rule.

Work Schedule and stocking

This year we aim to contract out some of the more demanding tasks to make our waters more comfortable to fish

The control of weed and reed in the QEII has been targeted with the help of council facilities along with repairs to platforms.

The fence at Brenkley is near completion and the aeration windmill has been erected with just the air stones to install into the pond. A couple of pegs will be renewed also

Peg 8 on Horton will be targeted and rebuilt by a contractor. The trench on the left hand side has done it's job and kept the path drier  this winter.

Milkhope needs a bit of TLC on the left hand side by cutting back the hawthorn bushes. The water inlet has been sorted now thanks to our landlord and the pond is full to cater for the recent stocking.

Carp 3 to 5lb were stocked into Milkhope last weekend along with large bream and a couple of big tench going into Horton Grange.
